Motion sensors in a warehouse
Situation
Aisle lighting ran at full output for the whole shift, even in aisles nobody entered. The fittings were the halogen type common at the time, drawing hundreds of watts each.
Solution
Motion sensors in the aisles and a switch to LED fittings with dimming and lighting scenes. Light runs at full output only where people work; empty aisles stay dimmed.
How we read the numbers on this site: The figures in these studies come from people inside those operations – engineers and managers who dug the savings out of their own data. Result
The electricity saving came from two steps at once: swapping halogen fittings for LED cut the power draw roughly tenfold, and motion-based control added a further few per cent on top – lights run only when a person or equipment is in the aisle. The warehouse also gained a map of real aisle utilisation. Sensors and controls cost €4,780.
Honest numbers
We deliberately do not put a euro figure on the saving: most of it came from the fitting swap, which was the normal step at the time – today you most likely have LED already, and the same project saves less on electricity. The value of the control remains: light follows movement, and the warehouse sees which aisles are actually used. The investment covers sensors and controls, not the fittings or the platform licence.
